Citizens Foundation (CF) is a registered Voluntary Organization, under Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860, established on February 20, 2002, by some enthusiastic youth with a social-bent of mind. It is working in multifarious areas of developmental sector that mainly operates in the states of Jharkhand, Bihar, Meghalaya, Manipur, Orissa and Uttrakhand. CF has gained rich experience over the years in various development domains especially NRM and Livelihood, Health Care and Education. Currently it reaches to more than 2 lakhs households through its direct interventions. The organization has partnered with array of donors including Governments of India and respective State Governments, Corporate Sector and International agencies. Citizens Foundation is marching ahead with the motto of ‘team spirit’ and with the help of its efficient staff and various donors including the It also shares good rapport with other NGOs for networking purpose. Having qualitative resource group on diversified areas, Citizens Foundation has been in an advantageous position to relocate and re-arrange its workforce as per the requirement of a project/assignment, in addition to having permanent deputed staff with defined functions.
Ever since the inception of Citizens Foundation which follows the motto, ‘Service
to Humanity’, is striding at a great pace in a multi-direction way. With its tentacles
spread in Seven States and NCR, and diversified intervention areas like Health and
Sanitation, NRM and Livelihood, Child Development and Education, Research and Studies,
and Campaign; ultimately vouching for ‘People’s Empowerment’, ‘Community Mobilization’
and ‘Capacity Building’ because all the sectors are inter-connected as progress
and development of one sector leads to the same for another sectors too. Also, NGOs
generally follow either ‘Event Mode’ or ‘Project Mode’ or ‘Mission Mode’ for development,
but Citizens Foundation approaches in an integrated way.
‘Earth Summit’, Rio-de-Jenerio (1992) and ‘Social Development Summit’, Copenhagen
(1995) luckily came up with two alternative vision of development under the umbrella
concocts of Sustainable Development and Social Development. Similarly, Citizens
Foundation too believes in playing the role of a Facilitator and partnering with
the local communities, giving them a stake in the development of the Community,
and helps to develop their ‘Sense of Ownership’, thus, creating a platform for ‘Overall
Development’. Instead of working only for Individuals, our focus has always been
on ‘Institution Building’, ‘Creation of Assets’ and encouraging maximum participation
by villagers. Our observation and experience that catered to varied fields helped
us to conceive the fact that merely strengthening the frontline field level staffs
won’t garner much result. We have to penetrate deep into the villages by roping
in different Committees under PRIs which would in turn strengthen and empower the
PRIs, hence, a way out for effective development and governance through decentralization.
Also, India, nowadays is looming under the budge word ‘CSR’, but at the same time
we should strive for ‘Individual Social Responsibility’ who could contribute and
support for development from Financial, Technical and Man-power aspect. Ultimately,
Change can be seen only when we change our perception. So, let’s be the Change Agent!
